Meet Lucas Dowden

Meet our Chief Online Learning Officer, Lucas Dowden. He joined the Alamo Colleges District this past spring and is working with the amazing Alamo Colleges Online Learning team. If you haven’t met Luke yet, send him a Hello by leaving a comment below!

  • What is one of the things on your bucket list?
    •  My grandfather was in the Army in World War II and participated in the Salerno beachhead. I want to visit Italy and celebrate Liberation Day in that country.
  • What’s the greatest bit of advice someone has given you?
    • Dr. Randy Webb, the now deceased long-time President at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, told me to grow in the pot I was planted, focus on that experience, and I would know when I had outgrown that pot.
  • Describe yourself in 3 words:
    • Passionate, Authentic, Learning-Focused
  • If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    • Black-eyed peas and cornbread with chow-chow and fresh tomatoes on the side.
  • If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?
    • The power of empathy to give to others so they might better value the life experiences others bring with them.
  • What is something you are passionate about?
    •  I am passionate about creating new and elevating existing pathways for adults with no college or some college and no degree to earn a meaningful credential (certificate or degree). This group is the reason I got into online learning in 2004. They are the reason I came to Alamo Colleges.
  • What cheers you up?
    • Giving compliments to other people. When I am having a bad day, I compliment those around me more than I normally do. I like to recognize talent in general.

  1. Lucas,
It was good to meet you the other day. I love the idea from Dr. Webb–great advice. But I have a question: what is chow-chow?
